YOUR QUESTIONS - OUR SOLUTIONS

The following are some solutions to the many typical challenge questions in business, education and the community.

BUSINESS

How can I assist our staff find the right colleague in this organization quickly and easily

Solution

The 'My Mentor' database has been designed predominantly for mentor-matching, however its versatility also extends to offering a generic staff to staff / or member to member matching service for just about any purpose!

I want to develop an accessible, 24/7 mentor-matching service for our staff

Solution

My Mentor is a unique and innovative mentor-matching service. Members can search for a mentoring partner online in the comfort of their own office or home, anytime, any day 7 days a week. There are many successful mentoring projects found across Australia, however one of the frustrations that many project organizers face is the logistical challenge a mentoring program can present, such as:

¨       Who will put it together?

¨       How will the mentor matching be done?

¨       How labour intensive will the program be?

¨       How can we  market the mentoring program?

¨       What about privacy issues?

¨       What information do we need to communicate?

¨       How to provide ongoing support to members?

The team at ‘My Mentor’ have looked at these issues and continue to work on a mentor-matching product like no other. The solution is an interactive, online search and match e-mentoring portal helping to build business mentoring relationships across Australia and beyond.  This is the only mentor-matching internet based service of its kind in Australia and the technology behind ‘My Mentor’ can be adapted to suit a variety of other staff matching programs.  Contact us to find out more.

Knowledge Management is our biggest issue: How do we keep track of the strengths and talents of our staff?

Solution

One of the major challenges that large Australian businesses face is keeping track of the talents, strengths, qualifications and experience of staff within their own organisation. This is vital because companies need to know the pool of talent that exists in the workplace and make forward thinking decisions accordingly. Because the 'My Mentor' software is a content management system, this makes it easy for each user of the software to be able to upload their own unique details to a profile page. The system then allows these staff members to make changes whenever they like and such changes are immediate. This is particularly beneficial to medium to large businesses that may otherwise find it difficult to keep track of its greatest asset - its people.  Each member can create their own profile page in just minutes!

 EDUCATION

Our faculty is looking at ways of providing innovative mentoring programs for our students, can you help?

Solution

Are you responsible for putting together a mentoring program for your school, TAFE or university? Do you have hundreds or even thousands of students? Don't know where to start in developing an efficient mentor-matching program to address some of the needs of your students? Ask yourself the following questions:

Who will put the mentor-matching program together?

¨       How will the mentor matching be done?

¨       How labour intensive will the program be?

¨       How can we  market the mentoring program?

¨       What about privacy issues?

¨       What information do we need to communicate?

¨       How to provide ongoing support to members?

This online mentor-matching service will save you time because much of the hard work has already been done! The team at My Mentor has developed a simple online mentor-matching service that includes easy to use templates for mentors and mentees to upload their own information and details to the mentor-matching software. The My Mentor software doesnt replace coordinators of mentoring programs, but rather it enhances the speed and efficiency of their work. My Mentor doesnt find mentors or mentees for your mentoring program as this would be a breach of your privacy and control of your unique mentoring projects. Educational institutes recruit and screen their own mentors and mentees they deem eligible to be included in the mentoring program.  COMMUNITY

Our organization wants to create a mentor-matching program that offers privacy to our members

Solution

My Mentor's group based membership facility allows your members  to have their own designated closed circuit space within the software, thereby allowing groups to have exclusive access to fellow members of the same group.

We call this an 'electronic handshake' that enables members to communicate with each. This is a useful feature for members as this allows them to search for the most appropriate match via general search criteria such as age range, location, occupation group, educational credentials and personality etc. Members even have the choice of uploading a photo of themselves if they wish. The My Mentor software is flexible enough to cater to many situations depending on the requirements of the individual or group.

Our community group spans across a large geographical area, does your online service accommodate this?

Solution

Yes it does. We know that some community groups are so widespread that they cover a large geographical area across the State or even Australia wide. It can be particularly challenging for these community groups to run face to face mentoring programs. While traditional face to face mentoring may be preferred for some, this has been much more difficult for people in remote areas. The technology behind My Mentor allows people in isolated regions to connect online (or at least in the initial stages of a mentoring partnership). This is a forward step for our communities as the internet has brought us closer to each other. What this can mean of course is that members in remote Australia can now communicate with people in metropolitan areas. This is good for everybody across Australia as we can all learn and benefit from the diversity of our skills and experiences, irrespective of where we are located.

Our community group can't seem to recruit enough mentors for our mentoring program. How can your services help?

Solution

One of the biggest challenges that community groups face is recruiting suitable members for a mentoring program. This can be for many reasons but the main reasons are the constraints of time and convenience. Because My Mentor is initially an online matching service, this suits a potentially large number of individuals that can access the mentor-matching database at a time that suits them.  This is a 24/7 service where mentors and mentees alike can be searching for a mentoring partner in the comfort of their own home or office. The My Mentor technology also has a built in email function where mentors can be reached more easily than traditional methods. This is very useful in communicating regularly with mentors so that they can be kept up to date on the latest news and information about the mentoring program. Such regular communication is paramount to the success and momentum of any mentoring program.
